FENA Press release

SARAJEVO, October 19 (FENA) - The Food Safety Agency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, with the support of the USAID/Sweden FARMA II project, has continued with the organization of program activities in order to increase the capacity of the competent institutions in the food safety sector.

Thus, the training for the competent authorities "Strengthening the capacities of monitoring and control of pesticide residues in food and animal feed of plant and animal origin" showed that in the BiH institutions are willing to implement EU guidelines in this field.

Lectures were organized in Mostar, Sarajevo and Banja Luka, where 115 representatives of the private and public sector participated.

“As part of this program, we had the opportunity to learn important information about the multi-year program for the control of pesticides residue inside and on the food of plant and animal origin. Also, participants were able to learn more about taking samples for the official control of pesticide residues in practical examples. In addition, they also discussed enhanced surveillance of pesticide residues in and on foods when imported at the border, the manner of handling and reporting failures, and the methodology for submitting data to the competent food safety authorities in the country and in the European Union,” explained the representatives of the USAID/Sweden FARMA II project.

The inspection services, through these activities, have been informed about the European Union regulations, the early warning system for food and animal feed, and the way they are handled, also about reporting of anomalies and data delivery, which ensures food safety for both, citizens of BiH and the European Union.

“Based on the technical assistance provided, the Food Safety Agency of BiH, with the support of the USAID/Sweden FARMA II project, will start with the finalization of guidelines for taking samples of pesticide residues during the implementation of official inspections,” stated the USAID/Sweden FARMA II project.
