Sinno: The EU wants to hear the opinions of the academic community and students

ZENICA, October 25 (FENA) - Deputy Head of the Delegation of the European Union to BiH Khaldoun Sinno participated today at the Faculty of Economics at the University of Zenica in a public debate on the need to continue with the socio-economic reforms in BiH, where he spoke to the students about the Reform Agenda.

Sinno said that the Reform Agenda formally expires in 2018, and that it is already necessary to see what to do next in terms of socio-economic reforms, which is why he wanted to hear the opinions of the academic community, experts and business people from Zenica and the Zenica-Doboj Canton as well.

“We have seen positive results in recent years, lower unemployment rate, investments, also funds secured through loans, but more needs to be done to ensure progress. So let's see what else needs to be done,” said Sinno.

He noted that the discussion is part of the dialogue that the EU conducts with the academic community, with the students, all for the purpose of determining the future steps to take.

“Challenges are still there and a lot more needs to be done. Whether it is unemployment of young people, development, aging of the population, securing the stay of the citizens instead of leaving the country, and looking for opportunities somewhere else ... We do not want to talk only with political actors, but also with students and academic community,” said Sinno.

He wanted to hear suggestions on how the EU can provide support in continuing the reform process in BiH.

He said that the EU, as it was reported in some media, does not plan to introduce a visa regime for citizens of countries that currently have a visa-free regime with the EU, including the citizens of BiH.

“There will be no visa for BiH citizens. However, what is under preparation is an information system on the movements, where all those who intend to travel to the EU region will be obliged to register on the online system,” said Khaldoun, and reminded that a similar application system exists for entry in the United States.

Registration, as he says, will facilitate easier travel, because it will shorten waiting times at the border, and the entry of personal data will give you authorization to enter the EU that will be valid for a longer period.
