SARAJEVO, November 20 (FENA) - The Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Comunity of the Federal Republic of Germany has secured 458,000 euros worth of specialized equipment for the Border Police of Bosnia and Herzegovina, in order to help ensuring a high level of protection of the state border.

The BiH Border Police received a donation of six ATV vehicles (quads), 10 patrol boats, 3,000 NIK tests (intended for determining the presence of drugs) and 11 thermal vision cameras and other night vision devices all for the purpose of assisting the police officers in the prevention of illegal border crossings.

The agreement on the handover of this equipment was signed today in Sarajevo by German Ambassador to BiH Christiane Hohmann and Director of the Border Police of BiH Zoran Galić who said that this donation represents the best example of good bilateral cooperation.

Director Galić said that only significant investments in infrastructure or material and technical resources can help the Border Police keep pace with the implementation of the best and most up to date practices applied in the countries of the European Union.

"This equipment is essential for everyday activities to be brought to a higher level. Germany is a true partner of the Border Police of BiH since its inception and has always provided us with the equipment that we needed. So far, we have received donations worth more than 11 million KM," he explained.

Ambassador Hohmann said that this is the biggest donation in the past two years, noting that the goal is to help the Border Police to overcome all the challenges, such as the pressure they are exposed to because of the increased influx of migrants in BiH.

She reminded that the Border Police lack a certain number of police officers, which is why those who guard the so-called green border are under pressure, and Hohmann praised this institution for what it has accomplished despite the challenges.

She was pleased that Germany was able to assist the Border Police by donating equipment to monitor inaccessible areas and perform its tasks in such territories.

Oliver Hass, the liaison officer of Germany's Federal Police at the Embassy of Germany in BiH, said that the strengthening of all Border Police units, especially those at the border itself, is highly important, and in agreement with the representatives of this BiH institution they have decided what is most needed.

The Embassy of Germany announced that this cooperation between the two police would continue, and in 2019, Germany will allocate funds for the procurement of equipment that for airports in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
