SARAJEVO, November 28 (FENA) - The BiH Prosecution charged former policeman Dušan Cimeša with committing crimes against humanity by leading an attack aimed at driving Bosniaks out of the Bihac municipality in 1992.
The prosecution filed an indictment on Wednesday charging Dušan Cimeša with participating in a joint criminal enterprise from May to December 1992 with the aim of ethnically cleansing the municipality of Bihac of its Bosniak civilian population by persecuting them on an ethnic and religious basis.
At the time, Cimesa was the chief of the police Public Security Station Bihac, which had a headquarters in the village of Ripač, the prosecution said, BIRN reports.
According to the charges, the implementation of the plan involved the deportation and forcible transfer of the Bosniak population, which led to murders, injuries and detentions.
“The defendant has been charged with having led and personally participated in arranging, planning and executing an attack on inhabited places and the Bosniak majority in the Ljutočka Dolina and Ripač area [of the Bihac municipality]. As a result of the attack, at least nine people were killed and around 6,000 civilians, including women, children and men, were forcibly deported,” a prosecution statement said.
“Following the separation and detention of able-bodied men, a total of 140 captives were taken away in groups and detained at a detention camp at the IMT garage in Ripač, where they were unlawfully held in inhumane conditions,” the statement added.
The indictment has been filed to the Bosnian state court for confirmation.
