BANJA LUKA, December 18 (FENA) - The Indirect Taxation Authority of Bosnia and Herzegovina (ITA) is a successful example of a state-level institution that provides services to all, stated the Head of the EU Delegation and EU Special Representative to Bosnia and Herzegovina, Ambassador Lars-Gunnar Wigemark.
"Taxes are never popular, and therefore it is important that to have a system that is transparent," Wigemark said at the presentation of the results of a project financed by the European Union to improve the capacities of ITA BiH held in Banja Luka today.
This project represents, as he pointed out, the continuation of EU support to ITA BiH in further alignment with the acquis communautaire and the effective implementation of the domestic legislation and practices in the field of indirect taxation.
The project provided assistance to BiH authorities through the development of the Law on Value Added Tax (VAT) and VAT Rules, the Excise Tax Law and the Excise Regulations, the Decisions on Implementation of the Law on Customs Policy of BiH (ZCP), various instructions and methodologies in the areas of prohibition and restrictions including intellectual property rights (IPRs), internal audits, risk analysis and subsequent customs controls.
The project also helped develop a handbook with practical examples in the field of VAT, enabling easier interpretation of the laws for interested parties. Practical guidelines for customs officers, tax inspectors and business entities will facilitate the application of legislation in the field of customs and excise duties.
