Džaferović: BiH should not even be a topic during Putin's visit to Belgrade

SARAJEVO, January 16 (FENA) - The BiH Presidency member Šefik Džaferović said today that Bosnia and Herzegovina will not be and neither should be a topic at a meeting planned during the official visit of Russian President Vladimir Putin to Belgrade.

“It is a matter of bilateral relations between Russia and Serbia. Bosnia and Herzegovina is a sovereign, internationally recognized country, which has its own policies, as well as foreign policy commitments, which include membership in the European Union and NATO.

These are the decisions made by the BiH institutions and anyone who wants to have good and friendly relations with BiH should respect our foreign and domestic political commitments,” underlined Džaferović.

He confirmed that BiH wants to have good bilateral relations with Russia, which, in his opinion, can be built only on the principles of mutual respect, and not at the expense of our country’s foreign policy or internal matters.

"Bosnia and Herzegovina certainly needs to have good relations with Russia, because it is in our mutual interest," said Džaferović, who has already spoken with the BiH Presidency Chairman Milorad Dodik in connection to Putin's visit to Belgrade tomorrow.

He said that he did not give any messages for Dodik to convey to Putin because he would be ready to give them "only when the things are set up properly within the state institutions, just as they should be.”

“Tomorrow's meeting in Belgrade is a matter for the two countries, and BiH has nothing to do with that. We want to build relations with Russia, with respect for our foreign policy and internal political commitments. This should be done by the Presidency of BiH with the proper decisions. Dodik's departure to this meeting is his private act and he does not reflect the policies of Bosnia and Herzegovina and no matter what he does, he cannot represent the official position of Bosnia and Herzegovina,” stressed Džaferović.
