FENA Press release

SARAJEVO, January 23 (FENA) - A delegation of the United States National Guard Bureau, headed by the Chief of the Bureau, General Joseph Lengyel, visited today the Ministry of Defense of Bosnia and Herzegovina and spoke with Minister of Defense Marina Pendeš, Deputy Minister of Defense for Policy and Planning Sead Jusić and their associates.

The meeting was a chance to highlight the successful cooperation with the National Guard of Maryland, which has been supporting BiH within the State Partnership Program (SPP) for more than 15 years, and expressed readiness for further expansion of cooperation.

Minister Pendeš thanked the United States as a strategic partner for its continuous assistance to BiH in the process of joining the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO), underscoring NATO's invitation to Bosnia and Herzegovina to activate the Membership Action Plan (MAP).

In this regard, the Minister expressed the belief that the Council of Ministers of BiH would soon adopt the first Annual National Plan (ANP) and thus make an additional step towards peace and stability in the region.

“I am convinced that by continuing the activities in this direction, BiH would become a better place to live in, especially having in mind young people that we want to keep in the country,” emphasized Minister Pendeš.

She particularly thanked for the continued assistance of the USA in the programs of training and modernization of the AF of BiH.

General Lengyel congratulated the management of the MoD of BiH on everything they have done on the path to MAP activation.

He expressed further readiness to assist BiH in these processes, as well as programs of defense against natural disasters and cyber threats.

“The United States and the National Guard are here to help Bosnia and Herzegovina and we are looking forward to many years of joint cooperation,” concluded General Lengyel.

The US delegation also included the Commander of the Maryland National Guard, Major General Linda Singh, as well as Major General Giselle Wilz, former Commander of NATO Headquarters in Sarajevo, now part of the US National Guard Bureau in the Pentagon, stated the Ministry of Defense of BiH.
