MOSTAR, January 29 (FENA) - The number of influenza patients in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina has increased compared to last week, and the activity of the influenza virus currently is at a medium level, which has been increasing everywhere in Europe, FENA learns from the Epidemiology Department of the Public Health Institute of FBiH.
According to the laboratory reports from the Clinical Center of the University of Sarajevo (KCUS) , of 160 tested samples, 61 were positive to influenza A virus, of which 36 cases of subtype A (H3) and 25 cases of subtype A (H1N1) pdm09.
The institute has received one report of death from the consequences of a severe acute respiratory infection, but the patient in question lab results were negative to the influenza virus.
The institute also underlines that vaccination is the most effective measure of protection against influenza and that WHO recommends vaccination during the influenza season because usually the virus activity is at its peak in February and sometimes in March.
According to unofficial data, influenza vaccination coverage in FBiH is below 2 percent.
