SARAJEVO, January 29 (FENA) - An agreement between the Qatar Charity organization and the International Organization for Migration (IOM), which regulates the project commitments related to the approved amount of 620,341 KM ($ 364,050), intended for the support to managing the migrant and refugee situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina, was signed today in Sarajevo.

The agreement was signed by Faisal Rashid A.T. Alfehaida, Assistant Director of Operations and International Cooperation at Qatar Charity and Dražan Rozić, Project Coordinator for Migration Management in BiH, on behalf of the International Organization for Migration (IOM).

Rozić thanked Qatar Charity for the donation, which, as he said “came at the right moment, when we are having difficulties with the accommodation capacities for migrants who arrive in BiH every day."

According to him, currently in the territory of BiH, there are 4,068 migrants in the centers managed by IOM in cooperation with the Ministry of Security of BiH, of whom the largest number, 3,561 of them are accommodated in the municipalities of Bihać, Cazin and Velika Kladuša in the Una-Sana Canton.

“The donation of Qatar Charity humanitarian organization in the amount of 364,000 US dollars will be spent to support the management of migrant centers in BiH, improving the living conditions and safety of migrants in temporary shelters,” said Rozić.

He added that the planned activities thanks to this donation include improving the existing infrastructure and extending the current accommodation capacities in the centers.

After signing the agreement, Rozić told reporters that the majority of donated funds will be spent in Ušivak in Hadžići.

“In Ušivak, at the moment we have this large tent in which there are currently around 130 people, which is not adequate solution in these winter conditions. We will build one prefabricated facility with an accommodation capacity of 170 beds,” said Rozić.

The rest of the donation, as he added, will be spent on the infrastructure inside the camp itself.

Assistant Director for Operations and International Cooperation at Qatar Charity, Faisal Rashid A.T. Alfehaida expressed satisfaction with the signing of the cooperation agreement for the financing of joint operations and added that the funds are intended for a reception center for migrants located in the territory of BiH.

He said that Qatar Charity and IOM will co-finance this project, adding that the IOM is to manage the project.

“The goal of Qatar Charity is to increase cooperation and joint activities. This cooperation confirms the strong and good relations between Qatar Charity and IOM,” said Faisal Rashid A.T. Alfehaida, adding that he seeks to strengthen and develop this cooperation in the upcoming period.

He noted that the work of Qatar Charity in BiH began in 1994, first in Sarajevo, and then in several cities and municipalities throughout BiH.

He also reminded that the activities of Qatar Charity have been various in the past, in the fields of health, education, social support, development projects, infrastructure, etc.

Alfehaida added that Qatar Charity operates in cooperation with state institutions, ministries, representatives of local communities and civil society organizations.
