Eco-Karst event - Protected areas an impetus for local development

SARAJEVO, March 5 (FENA) - Minister of Physical Planning, Construction and Environmental Protection of the Sarajevo Canton Damir Filipović expressed his commitment to preserving the natural areas of the Sarajevo Canton at a meeting held today with the partners of the project “Eco-Karst -protected areas ecosystems - local development project".

He informed the representatives of Austria, Montenegro, Croatia, Hungary, Germany, Romania, Slovenia and Serbia said that the experiences of other countries have been useful in identifying the potentials of protected areas and defining sustainable patterns of use in the case of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

“The goal is therefore to balance environmental protection and development of economic activities based on preservation of ecosystems,” said Filipović, and announced that during this three-day event, a series of workshops will be held in which participants will exchange knowledge and practices in drafting action plans that incorporate integrated principles of environmental protection.

Among sixteen project partners is also the Public Institution for the Protected Natural Areas of the Sarajevo Canton with its pilot project - "Bijambare” protected landscape, stated the Sarajevo Canton Press Service.
