BANJA LUKA, March 21 (FENA) - Chairman of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina Milorad Dodik said that the final verdict in the Hague Tribunal to the first president of RS Radovan Karadžić, who was sentenced to life in prison for genocide and war crimes, “is rather arrogant and cynical, and part of the plan of settling the score in accordance with the previous judgments of the Hague Tribunal".
He claims that there has been no trust in the Hague Tribunal for a long time, and “this was only confirmed with the judgment in the case of Radovan Karadžić.”
- There has been no confidence in the Hague Tribunal and this is not a matter if you believe it or not but it is a matter of lost trust,” Dodik told RTRS.
Bearing in mind, as he said, that the Hague Tribunal, to a significant extent, had a selective approach to justice, it has not fulfilled the set mission - to ensure reconciliation among the peoples in BiH.”
“One of the basic things was to individually convict people for violating the laws and customs of war, and also one of the important segments was to provide reconciliation. They have succeeded in individually convicting people, but this other mission of the Hague Tribunal, to provide reconciliation, is even more uncertain, almost impossible to reach,” Dodik said.
Sonja Karadžić-Jovičević, vice-president of the National Assembly of RS and daughter of Radovan Karadžić, said that that to her, even 20 or 40 years in prison is like a life sentence.
“Such a ruling is obviously the result of political pressure and has nothing to do with law, justice, facts and evidence, and what the defensepresented in the appeals proceeding,” she told RTRS.
As a success of the Karadžić defense team, she singled out the fact that he was not convicted for the genocide in those seven municipalities in BiH asides Srebrenica.
