Continuation of EU assistance to the communities affected by floods

FENA Press release

SARAJEVO, April 1(FENA) - As part of the Flood Recovery Program, six families from Bijeljina, Travnik, Doboj, Goražde and Zavidovići, will be supported with a total of 42,000 KM in order to turn their business ideas into successful small businesses.

Funds will be used to procure equipment and tools, and all the newly established small businesses will be provided with mentoring in the first year of operation.

Support activities for future small entrepreneurs are part of the economic empowerment that is being carried out within the framework of the Flood Recovery Program - Housing Provision.

The program, worth 15 million euros, is funded by the European Union with 12.5 million euros in cooperation with entity governments, partner municipalities, cities, and the UNDP in BiH.

In the previous two months, three modules of entrepreneurship training were successfully held, at which the participants gained the skills necessary for developing and running their own small businesses, and in the coming period, they will start registering them.

In addition to supporting the launch of small businesses, beneficiaries will be provided with assistance in the field of agricultural production and employment.

As a result, nearly 200 households from 34 municipalities and cities in BiH will have the opportunity of earning regular and sustainable income.

With economic empowerment, the Program will provide housing for about 2,800 people whose homes have been destroyed or damaged in floods and landslides in 2014.

The Flood Recovery Program - Housing Provision provides support for self-sustained recovery through rehabilitation and housing construction and the economic empowerment of socially and economically vulnerable people whose homes have been damaged or destroyed in floods and landslides in 2014.

The program is implemented by UNDP in BiH, together with the International Organization for Migration, Arbeiter-Samariter-Bund, Hilfswerk International and partner municipalities and cities.
