SARAJEVO, April 1 (FENA) - Project "Local Partnerships for Employment in BiH", whose implementation was supported by the European Union with four million euros, concluded in Sarajevo today with a final event "Local Partnerships for Employment Work!"

International Labor Organization monitored development of 19 local employment partnerships over the past three years, which contributed to creation and introduction of new active measures in labor market in 27 local communities in BiH, and they secured extra qualifications for over 1600 persons, and out of that number 500 were employed.

Head of the EU Delegation to BiH and Special Representative of the EU to BiH Ambassador Lars-Gunnar Wigemark said he was pleased to attend the final event of the program supported by the EU through the International Labor Organization, in cooperation with 19 local partners.

According to him, overall goal is to increase employment rate.

"These are activities that followed requests and needs we heard from local levels after catastrophic floods in 2014 but it is also something I heard in direct communication with local self-governance units, 30 or forty of them which I had a chance to visit over the past year and a half," said Ambassador Wigemark.

He added their goal was to form initiatives on local level that will enable employment for their citizens. He noted that within these activities they worked with 27 partner local self-governance units, which then realized cooperation with 19 local partners in this area.

Director of the Technical Support Team of the Office of the International Labor Organization for Central and Eastern Europe Markus Pilgrim said they trained or provided extra qualifications for around 2000 persons within this project and 550 of them got new jobs.

"We received 160 applications for the project from municipalities, different social partners and business entities. Out of those 160 applications, 19 have been accepted and financed," explained Pilgrim.

He emphasized that this model has also been used for other countries and that he is very pleased with the results of this project.
