Bajić: Impermissible for prosecutor offices to reject information to the media

FENA Fedzad Forto

SARAJEVO, April 5 (FENA) - It is impermissible for the prosecutor offices not to respond to journalists’ questions, said today Miodrag Bajić, Deputy Chief Prosecutor of Republika Srpska, and a special prosecutor in the RS Prosecutor's Office in Sarajevo today.

Speaking at the seminar "Transparency of the Prosecutor's Office and Public Relations", Bajić emphasized that without better cooperation with the media there can be no better public perception of the work of the prosecutor offices and other judicial institutions, although the largest number of prosecutors do their job fairly and honestly.

Although sometimes there are some misunderstandings or questions that cannot be answered in the relations between the prosecution and the media, he believes that there is no reason for the media to be denied information, moreover so, after the confirmation of an indictment becomes public.

Bajić also believes that the biggest problems of the prosecutions are not with professional media, “but some internet portals that often do not have reliable data on their background or spreading of content on social media.”

Acting Chief Prosecutor of FBiH, Tihomir Jurko emphasizes that it is necessary to ensure that justice is visible, so that the transparency of the prosecutor offices is not questioned.

He also emphasized that within the prosecutor offices, it is necessary to improve internal communication, as negative occurrences do happen from time to time.

The two-day seminar "Prosecutorial transparency and communication with the public" was organized by the centers for education of judges and prosecutors of FBiH and RS in cooperation with the USAID Judiciry Project in BiH.
