SARAJEVO, April 6 (FENA) - Bruce Dickinson, frontman of the legendary heavy metal band Iron Maiden, has been made an honorary citizen of Sarajevo a quarter of a century after he played a concert when the city was under siege during the breakup of Yugoslavia and the aggression on Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Dickinson received the "Honorary Citizen of Sarajevo" in Sarajevo yesterday for his courage to come the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina during the horrible war period and for holding a concert which sent out a message to stop the worst atrocities and killing in Europe since the Second World War.
"It is wonderful to see that my visit 25 years ago meant so much to this city and citizens. You all witnessed the terrible war in Sarajevo, you were there, I was here only once. It is a great honor to receive this award, which I want to share with all of you who were in Sarajevo during the siege," said Dickinson.
The award was presented to him by the Mayor of Sarajevo, Abdulah Skaka, who said that Dickinson's arrival in Sarajevo in 1994 was one of those moments that were a sign to those in the besieged city that Sarajevo would survive, that Bosnia and Herzegovina would prevail.
"Today, we have only made a reality what all the Sarajevans have felt in their hearts," Skaka said.
