Komšić: War crimes committed in Ahmići and Trusina a permanent warning to us all

FENA Press release

SARAJEVO, April 16 (FENA) - The crimes committed in Ahmići and Trusina remain a permanent warning to all of us. Horrible acts like these must never happen again, said the BiH Presidency member Željko Komšić on the occasion of the marking of the anniversary of the massacres in Ahmići and Trusina.

He noted that from a moral, human and military standpoint, the killing of civilians and prisoners of war constitutes a crime of the highest degree.

“I share the pain with the families of victims of the crimes committed in Ahmići and Trusina, and I urge all citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina to have sympathy and empathy and to remember what had happened. Innocent victims were our neighbors, fellow citizens. The crimes that had been committed will remain an unhealed wound, but it is high time to look at the truth in the eye as a society and move on. I believe that the legally ascertained judgments of war crimes courts in Bosnia and Herzegovina must be the basis for our actions, both for the authorities and for everyone else,” underlined Komšić.

Crimes committed on behalf of one group of people cannot be justified by the crimes of another ethnic group, because there is no justification for the crime, Komšić stressed.

“We must not allow for those who glorify war crime and criminals of war to continue to be the bearers of social processes,” stated Komšić today.
