SARAJEVO, May 26 (FENA) – Member of the BiH Presidency Željko Komšić expects the European Commission to announce "Package for the Western Balkans" next Wednesday, which should include Bosnia and Herzegovina, Presidency of BiH stated.
Treaty of Lisbon, he emphasized, is the current acquis cummunautire which is used in negotiations with countries candidates for membership in the European Union. What is important is amendment that the European Union moved from protection of collective rights to protection of individual human rights and fundamental freedoms, regulated by the European Convention on Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms, which is included in the acquis communautire.
He added that the Presidency of BiH handed a request for membership of Bosnia and Hercegovina to the European Union in 2016. Presidency of BiH also delivered answers to the EU Questionnaire in 2018 and then answers to additional questions in 2019.
"I believe that the European Commission will announce its Opinion on BiH when the time is right, and also series of recommendations and measures our country needs to fulfill to get a candidate status for the EU," he emphasized.
