Izetbegović: Submission of ANP does not mean automatic membership in NATO

SARAJEVO, May 28 (FENA) - A session of the joint collegium of both Houses of the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina, which was scheduled for today, did not even begin because the agenda was not accepted by the representatives of SNSD Nikola Špirić and Nebojša Radmanović, said the Speaker of the House of Peoples of BiH PA Bakir Izetbegović.

“They are sabotaging the work of any other legislative body until the new convocation of the Council of Ministers of BiH is established, so they have stopped the formation of commissions within both houses, and this way the work of the collegium is also blocked,” said Izetbegović.

We had situations in the past in which the Council of Ministers and the entity governments were not formed, and these conditions lasted more than a year, but it did not happen that the work of the Parliamentary Assembly of BiH was blocked, added Izetbegović.

He noted that the Parliamentary Assembly costs taxpayers about 63,000 KM every working day.

“These are direct damages, visible, which can be expressed in numbers, and those damages that we inflict on the BiH PA are far greater for the reputation of the country, as well as concrete interests, because, at the moment, there are hundreds of laws, decisions, agreements, financial agreements waiting to be adopted, including the formation of the committees,” Izetbegović pointed out.

We have, as he says, this problem related to the submission of the first annual national plan within the MAP with NATO.

“I believe we can find a solution because the submission of the ANP does not mean membership of BiH in NATO and we are ready to politically take such an attitude, to confirm it. So, we expect the SNSD, or their leader, to do the same, and to find the final solution together with us, to move away from the deadlock,” Izetbegović said.

He says he believes that the OHR, or PIC, should make some decisions, "because these people receive enormous salaries and their refusal to do their job is ruining the country. To stop everything in a country is an unacceptable thing to do and certainly it is illegal."

“To receive salaries, and not to form committees, to refuse to come to work, to do your job for the state and for the citizens, I think it's a dishonest thing to do,” said Izetbegović.

Asked about the naming of the Parliamentary Delegation of BiH in the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, Izetbegović replied that he thinks that there is still a possibility to do this by June 24, when the deadline is "if we manage to solve this problem related to the submission of the first ANP".

“When it comes to the BiH Constitution and the rule of law, there can be no compromise. We expect the prime minister designate of the new convocation of the Council of Ministers of BiH, coming from the SNSD, to confirm this clearly - when it comes to the Constitution of BiH and the rule of law, or all laws, all strategic decisions made by the Presidency of BiH and the BiH PA, all of them must be respected,” said Izetbegović.

Asked about the expectations when it comes to the opinion of the European Commission on BiH’s application for candidate status, Izetbegovic said that he was not particularly optimistic.

“We may still get a candidate status but with a lot of conditioning. That would be the maximum that we can expect,” said Izetbegović.
