SARAJEVO, June 5 (FENA) - On the occasion of June 5 - World Environment Day, the Embassy of Sweden in BiH invites the citizens and authorities of this country to take all necessary measures to improve the air quality in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The quality of air in cities throughout the country during the winter is more than alarming. Sarajevo, Tuzla, Lukavac, Živinice have been proclaimed several times the most polluted cities in Europe.
"In order not to have the statistics repeating, it is extremely important to speak continuously about this issue during the summer time. Actually the best time to take measures to reduce air pollution is now.
The environment is in focus of Sweden's engagement in Bosnia and Herzegovina and we support BiH's authorities and citizens in their efforts to address the issue of air quality, "said Anders Hagelberg, Ambassador of Sweden in BiH.
For the Air Quality Project in BiH Sweden has allocated about EUR 4 million for the next four years and during this period, experts from the Swedish Environment Protection Agency will transfer to the domestic institutions all necessary knowledge and experience. In addition to that, launching the campaign and exhibition #letstalkaboutair opened a discussion among BiH citizens about ways each individual can contribute to solving the problem.
The World Environment Day is celebrated on 5 June each year at the anniversary of the United Nations Conference in Stockholm (1972) dedicated to the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP). This year, the focus is on air quality, stated the Embassy of Sweden in BiH.
