Nelson: We will continue to support those who work on reconciliation

SREBRENICA, June 10 (FENA) - The US Ambassador to Bosnia and Herzegovina, Eric Nelson, was today in his first visit to Srebrenica, where he visited the Potočari Memorial Center, paid tribute to the victims of genocide, and met representatives of associations that gather survivors of the Srebrenica genocide.

Ambassador Nelson said that Srebrenica deserves a better future, and that the assistance of the US government to Srebrenica and Bosnia and Herzegovina will go towards the reconciliation and prosperity of the country.

2I wanted to come here and visit the Potočari Memorial Center, to meet with the Director of the Memorial Center and talk to those who survived the genocide. The United States will continue to support all those who are actively seeking justice for those who have lost their lives in genocide, as well as those who work for peace and reconciliation. Srebrenica has a painful history, which we can never forget and from which we all must learn,” said the US Ambassador.

During his visit, he also met with Mayor and Deputy Mayor of Srebrenica, Mladen Grujičić and Hamdija Fejzić.

“I met with the Mayor and Deputy Mayor to see what they have been doing on the reconciliation process and progress of this local community,” said Ambassador Nelson.

Deputy Mayor of Srebrenica Hamdija Fejzić says that he informed Nelson about the preparations for marking the 24th anniversary of genocide against the Bosniaks in the UN safe zone of Srebrenica.

Fejzić said that the Ambassador expressed desire to take part in this year's Peace March, and confirmed that he will also be present at the commemoration and on July 11.

“I informed Ambassador Nelson about the problems that the citizens of Bosniak nationality face to this day. I expressed concern about the education and impeding of children's right to attend classes in the Bosnian language, which is a problem in the entire territory of RS, and about the transport of students, as well as other problems that we have, such as employment in the institutions, enterprises funded by the Government of RS "said Fejzić.
