Welcoming the gathered representatives of BiH, international institutions and diplomatic corps in the complex of the building of the US Embassy in Sarajevo, Ambassador Eric Nelson said that the values that inspired the creation of the American nation are being celebrated on this day.

He recalled the words of US President Donald Trump in the document National Security Strategy, in which he said that freedom, free trade, justice for all and dignity of each individual are the key values that make the United States the nation that it is today.

This year, Nelson added, we celebrate the 50th anniversary of the landing of  on the moon and is thus celebrating the achievement of the incredible goal set by US President John F. Kennedy when he said that it was decided to fly to the Moon in that decade not because what's that easy, because it's not.

"That is why this goal is to serve to measure the maximum strength and the best skills," Nelson recalled Kennedy’s words, adding that Kennedy knew that achieving such a goal would bring inspiration and hope.

This time next year, the Mars rover is about to land in the crater named after the site in BiH, "Jezero" (Lake) near Jajce, and Nelson added that no one knows what kind of inspiration this achievement might bring for future generations.

“Like the US in 1776 and 1959, Bosnia and Herzegovina today has a bold goal - progress towards membership in the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) and the European Union, and the United States supports this goal because it will serve to measure Bosnia's strengths and skills,” said the US Ambassador Eric Nelson.

Nelson emphasized that the success of Bosnia and Herzegovina does not depend on the international community, but on the citizens of this country and what they can do for it.

"The US is ready to help in that respect because it offers a partnership to those striving for freedom and prosperity," concluded Nelson.
