SARAJEVO, July 3 (FENA) - The sixth summit of the Western Balkan countries in the framework of the Berlin Process will be held on 4 and 5 July in Poznan, Poland, at which a meeting of heads of state or governments will also be organized.

The Berlin Process is a diplomatic initiative by German Chancellor Angela Merkel, launched in 2014, with the aim of supporting the peaceful, stable and democratic future of the Western Balkan countries, and to promote regional cooperation and European integration of the region.

On behalf of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the meeting will be attended by Chairman of the Council of Ministers of BiH Denis Zvizdić and Minister of Foreign Affairs of BiH Igor Crnadak.

Zvizdić said this week that the topics of this meeting will be economy, connectivity, civil society, infrastructure construction and security.

Zvizdić noted that the main message will remain that the countries of the Western Balkans have a European perspective, and when it comes to nominating projects especially in the field infrastructure BiH has prepared well.

“We are probably best prepared among the countries of the Western Balkans, and I expect good and positive news from this summit with regards to financing of infrastructure projects in BiH,” added Zvizdić.

Among the topics of the summit will be regional cooperation, as well as bilateral relations, border issues as well as further improvement of the single economic space.

In this regard, Zvizdić noted that they plan to highlight that last year at the border crossings in the Western Balkans, BiH businesses and trade companies lost 26 million hours in waiting.

"This should concern the whole region, and we will discuss this at the upcoming summit, but also at all the coming summits and meetings that deal with creation of a single economic space in the Western Balkans," said the Chairman of the Council of Ministers.

The Summit will also include follow-up events such as the Business Forum EU-Western Balkans and the Civil Society Forum.

In addition to the representatives of the six Western Balkan countries (Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, Montenegro, North Macedonia and Serbia), the summit will also be attended by the EU partners, Germany, France, Italy, Austria, Slovenia, Croatia, Greece, United Kingdom and the host country, Poland.

The summit is being held in Poznan since the Berlin Process is currently chaired by Poland, which has outlined its priorities of the presidency: economic, cultural and security cooperation, cooperation between civil society and youth, as well as the development of energy and transport infrastructure.

In a statement ahead of the Summit in Poznan, German Chancellor Angela Merkel said that the Western Balkan countries have a European perspective if they meet all the requirements for EU membership, adding that there are still many tensions in the region that need to be overcome.

Merkel assessed that the solution to the long-standing dispute between Athens and Skopje should serve as a positive example with the reached agreement on the name of North Macedonia, which should give impetus to try to solve problems in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the dispute between Serbia and Kosovo.
