FENA Press release

SARAJEVO, July 4 (FENA) - The First Annual Report on the Implementation of the Framework Plan to Address the Fate of Missing Persons was presented at the Western Balkans Summit in Poznań, Poland on July 4 and 5, under the Berlin Process.

As reported in the Press Release of the Missing Persons InstituteBiH, the Annual Report was presented by representatives of domestic institutions dealing with addressing the fate of the missing persons of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Kosovo, Croatia and Serbia, who are united in the Missing Persons Group (MPG).

Missing Persons Institute of BiH is represented by the Board of Directors consisting of Nikola Perišić, Marko Jurišić and Amor Mašović.

During the presentation of the report, it was emphasized that the work of members of the Missing Persons Group significantly enhanced the mutual cooperation that is reflected in the exchange of information important for solving individual John/Jane Doe cases.

It was also pointed out that they have been working intensively on the development of the regional database of active cases of persons missing in conflicts in the territory of the former Yugoslavia. This is the only database of this kind in the world.

“Between January and July this year, domestic institutions have made more than 445 entries in the Database,” it is stated.

Also, MPG members have deepened the dialogue on sharing information on locations of common interest. Thus at the meetings, 16 concrete locations were proposed for joint excavations.

“The Summit participants welcomed the Report of the Missing Persons Group, commended the progress in strengthening cooperation and increasing the efficiency of the issue of missing persons and stressed that they expect further progress, including launching a public regional database, further exchange of information on potential grave sites and excavations, and further informing family members of missing persons about any progress they make in their individual cases. The importance of this work was emphasized in order to give the survivors a sense of purpose but also a contribution to reconciliation. The participants emphasized that they still expect progress reports,” said the BiH Missing Persons Institute.
