SARAJEVO, July 8 (FENA) – The Sarajevo suburb Ciglane hosts today a carpet made of bottle caps Čepoćilim, which is a work of art decorated with Bosnian carpet motifs and made from 25,000 bottle caps.

The project Čepoćilim was created by the Association “Green Art” and it is supported by the Tourist Community of the Sarajevo Canton, Centar Municipality, Ministry of Physical Planning, Construction and Environmental Protection of the Sarajevo Canton and Ministry of Culture and Sport of the Sarajevo Canton.

The author of Čepoćilim and the President of the Association “Green Art” Alma Hrasnica Dervišević said that Čepoćilim was created during 39 eco art workshops that were held in the last three years.

“Čepoćilim is the perfect combination of art and ecology. We began this project in 2013 when we thought of the idea of collecting bottle caps and during the European Waste Reduction Week. That’s when we created the first carpet designed with Bosnian motifs and today it is the size of 3x10 meters. The point of the project is to raise awareness of accumulation of waste packaging. I think we have shown that there is a way to give this waste a new reuse value,” said Hrasnica Dervišević.

“Green Art” owns some 700 kilograms of bottle caps that will be used for new projects and it plans on doing other projects in different BiH cities.
