Borovac: Outburst of hate speech and unfounded allegations by Croat MPs

FENA Press release

SARAJEVO, July 8 (FENA) - Malicious interpretation of the statement made by the BiH Minister of Human Rights and Refugees Semi Borovac last week during the handover of a donation of equipment for the Refugee Reception and Readmission Center Salakovac near Mostar resulted in a disproportionate outburst of hate speech and a series of unfounded allegations in an open letter signed by Croat MPs in the Herzegovina-Neretva Canton Assembly.

“This event is has been misused in a populist manner for everyday political purposes. After being asked a hypothetical question of whether the readmission center could be used to accommodate the families of returnee fighters from the battlefield in Syria, having in mind the purpose of the center, I said that these capacities could be used as one of the possibilities for their accommodation, if the competent authorities decide this way, primarily the Ministry of Security of BiH,” recalls Minister Borovac.

Unfortunately, as she added, this statement was welcomed with uncontrolled outbursts of hateful allegations and accusations based on political, ethnic grounds that Borovac has rejected with disgust.

“It is enough to compare my statement and their reactions to see the ultimate intentions and the attitude of those towards us who are doing our best to act responsibly,” underlined Minister Borovac.

Refugee and Readmission Centers are part of a successful system in BiH setup to accept and accommodate refugees and persons in readmission.

The significance of this system is underlined by the fact that the effectiveness of the acceptance of BiH citizens who return to BiH due to non-compliance with migration regulations was one of the key conditions for the visa liberalization for all those traveling with BiH passport.

“Accommodation of persons in the centers near Mostar is regulated by the laws and decisions of the BiH institutions,” concluded Minister Borovac.
