SARAJEVO, July 8 (FENA) - The results of the Balkan Barometer for 2019, presented today in Sarajevo, show that Bosnia and Herzegovina has the least reported layoffs in the region, while six percent of the citizens reported that they lost their jobs last year.
“The number of extreme pessimists regarding the prospects for joining the EU has dropped by 10 percent and currently stands at 29 percent,” said Secretary General of the Regional Cooperation Council Majlinda Bregu at today's press conference in Sarajevo.
Almost half of them, or 48 percent of business people reported that during the past year they had problems in filling job vacancies.
“Only a quarter of businesses in Bosnia and Herzegovina think that the country’s economy is a good or excellent place to invest,” added Bregu.
Also, BiH has recorded an increase in the number of respondents who have showed optimism.
Citizens of Montenegro feel most welcome anywhere in the region, 52 percent of them, while Montenegro has the highest percentage of respondents who do not care about environmental pollution (47 percent).
Macedonian citizens are among the most worried in the region in terms of climate change and pollution, 82 percent and 78 percent, and Macedonia and the largest number of citizens with lack of trust in the judiciary and the media in relation to any other economy in the Western Balkans.
The survey covered by the Balkan Barometer was conducted from December 2018 to January 2019. The data shows that a greater number of respondents still remain negative rather than positive in terms of their current situation and future prospects.
Bregu presented the results to the participants of the meeting of the Regional Cooperation Council, which was opened in Sarajevo today by Minister of Foreign Affairs of BiH Igor Crnadak.
