Emine Erdogan attends official opening of the renovated 'Mjedenica' Institute

SARAJEVO, July 10 (FENA) - With a symbolic cutting off the ribbon, the completion of the renovation and equipping of classrooms and workshops of the Special Education Institute 'Mjedenica' was celebrated yesterday. It is a part of a project of cooperation between BiH and Turkey in the area of ​​special education financed by the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA).

At the ceremony on this occasion, wife of the Turkish President Emine Erdogan recalled that TIKA has implemented a project for reconstruction and equipping of 16 classrooms and special education workshops in eight institutions for special education in Mostar, Zenica, Tuzla and Sarajevo, in accordance with standards in the field of special education in the Republic of Turkey.

She stressed Turkey's readiness to share experiences it has in the special education sector in with all the friendly countries.

Mirsada Čakal, Director of the Mjedenica Institute, thanked Mrs. Erdogan and TIKA on behalf of the entire staff for their support. She emphasized that, within the framework of the Cooperation Project on Special Education, TIKA has renovated and equipped a culinary workshop, a woodworking workshop, and a special education classroom.

She explained that occupational workshops have been an organizational part of the 'Mjedenica' Institute since 1986. During its operation, activities and contents changed, but they did not stop working.

The 'Mjedenica' Institute is a public institution that works with children with difficulties in psychophysical development, from pre-school age to adulthood (ages 3 to 40).

The goal of the Institute is to raise and educate, socialize and strengthen the child according to his needs, interests and abilities.

The cooperation project in the field of special education was realized in cooperation of the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency TIKA, the FBiH Ministry of Education and Science and the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Turkey.
