SARAJEVO, July 11 (FENA) - Srebrenica is a deep wound which is being reopened every time responsibility for crimes that were committed in this area is denied or belittled and when perpetrators are glorified, emphasized Head of the EU Delegation and Special Representative to BiH Lars-Gunnar Wigemark addressing at the commemoration for Srebrenica genocide victims today.
Genocide denial is against the basic European values, said Wigemark, adding that is a direct quote stated in the Opinion of the European Commission on BiH application for membership.
He noted that the EU is based on a concept of recognizing the Holocaust and commitment to never let this dark chapter of history be repeated ever again. However, that is exactly what happened half a century later.
As a Special Representative of the EU, Wigemark called political leaders in BiH and the region to show responsibility, recognition and remorse for everything that happened here.
"I call you to create an environment that will enable reconciliation and overcome heritage of war," emphasized Wigemark.
