SARAJEVO, July 12 (FENA) - The Business forum Bosnia and Herzegovina - Greece, which was taking place today in Sarajevo, has shown that there is plenty room for improvement of economic relations and cooperation through direct connection of businesses of the two countries.

The Business Forum was organized by the Foreign Trade Chamber of BiH (FTCBiH), in cooperation with the Chamber of Commerce of Athens and the Embassy of Greece in BiH, as part of the return visit of the business delegation of Greece to Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Director of the Export Promotion Agency of the FTC BiH, Enes Ališković, said that the Forum has gathered the representatives of eight Greek companies from the pharmaceutical, IT, food, metal and electricity sectors, as well as representatives of 17 BiH companies.

“Speaking about the cooperation so far, we can say that Greece is not one of the leading foreign trade partners of our country and we want to bring economic cooperation to a higher level.

In 2018, the volume of trade was about 93 million KM, out of which 15 million goes to exports and almost 78 million KM worth of imports from Greece,” said Ališković.

In 2018, BiH mainly marketed products related to the wood processing industry, especially kraft paper and packaging paper. Also, exports related to detonators that are applied in the dedicated and in the civilian industries, as well as a certain number of products from the metal processing sector, have also been exported.

At the same time, the leading import products were from the chemical sector, citrus fruits, other fruits, as well as a number of chemical products used for hygiene and personal care.

“What is positive is that, apart from commodity exchange, the tourism sector is progressing each year. We have established a direct air link between Athens and Sarajevo, as well as charter flights from Banja Luka to Greece, and we believe that the good tourism experiences so far will be improved and raised to a higher level,” added Ališković.

This year, the Athens Chamber of Commerce marks 100 years of existence and currently has about 100,000 active members.

Stavros Georgakis, a member of the Executive Board of the Chamber of Commerce of Athens, said that trade between the two countries is not at a high level, but there is good potential to increase it.
