Čović: Investigation of criminal activities to be done in Aluminij case

FENA Dejan Jazvić

SARAJEVO, July 21 (FENA) - The President of the Croatian National Assembly (HNS) and the Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) of BiH Dragan Čović believes that a legal state must show its strength in the case of the Aluminij company.

“Everything that has the features of criminal activity must be investigated and prosecuted. No one can be protected. Those who have drawn money out of Aluminij have a name and competent institutions must bring this story to an end. I appeal that this should be done as soon as possible and to make this process as transparent as possible,” Čović told FENA.

He points out that the revival of the Aluminij production and worker care is a priority everyone must work on.

“Now, the most important thing is to protect the workers, in terms of reprogramming the credit obligations so that many of them have health insurance. Everyone should know that Aluminij cannot and should not be the same as it has been. The renewal process has to go a long way due to technical-technological and economic reasons. Concrete plans and economic calculations exist, so the order of activities to be taken is clear. All this must be on sound economic grounds. Of course, all this includes a number of administrative, technical and financial decisions. This is particularly important for the Government of the Federation and I expect this role to be more visible,” Čović emphasizes.

He says it is clear that there is also political abuse of the Aluminij case, which has been present for years, and this escalation of the problem has the goal of weakening Croat policies in Bosnia and Herzegovina in a very sensitive political moment.

When it comes to the political turnaround that has recently been announced in the context of the blockade of the establishment of government and the reform of the electoral law, Čović says that we can, for some time after the elections, pretend to have a government, but “the truth is that we do not have institutions lose strength in terms of functionality, the capacity to make decisions, but also to the political sense.”

This, he adds, also reflects on the Euro-Atlantic integration processes and activities that are already far behind.

“The whole country is getting deeper into a crisis and we cannot pretend we do not see it. Therefore, it is our duty, as a responsible political subject, to raise the voice against it and to point out to all the deception, the conscious obstruction of the implementation of the election results and the implementation of the elections of the will expressed by all three constituent peoples and all citizens of BiH. However, it is obvious that there are those who like the status quo and the failure of the authorities, particularly to avoid electoral legislation reform. Those who do this are extremely irresponsible because they are so discouraged from holding elections, thus endangering the rule of law and democracy. Next year local elections are to take place in BiH and they must finally be held in Mostar. The basic premise for this is an amendment to the Election Law,” concluded Čović in an interview with FENA.
