Šarović: BiH Presidency to take a stance on the radioactive waste disposal site

FENA Press release

BANJA LUKA, July 22 (FENA) - President of the Serb Democratic Party (SDS), Mirko Šarović, said today that the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina should again deliberate on Croatia's intention to build a landfill of medium-radioactive nuclear waste at Trgovska Gora site at the border with Bosnia and Herzegovina, in the vicinity of Novi Grad in the entity of RS.

This issue, he said, should be considered in the Presidency of BiH, after receiving confirmation from Croatia that this neighboring country definitely, and despite the opposition of Bosnia and Herzegovina, intends to build nuclear waste disposal in Trgovska Gora.

“It is perfectly clear after the disclosure of these intentions that it was fundamentally wrong, hasty and confusing that the then BiH Presidency Chairman Milorad Dodik called for the vital national interest of the Serb people in the RS National Assembly, with the view that the conclusions of the Presidency on the Pelješac Bridge, in which Croatia is urged to suspend construction of the bridge until the border issues between the two countries are resolved, has been proven to be destructive to the interests of RS,” underlined Šarović.

Šarović also asserted that Bosnia and Herzegovina has no other choice, but that the Presidency puts back on its agenda and takes a clear stance on the issue of nuclear waste disposal site in Trgovska Gora, which is of great importance for the entire country, especially Novi Grad, Kostajnica and other bordering municipalities, but also the issue of the construction of the Pelješac Bridge.
