Džaferović: The rights of returnees must be respected

FENA Press release

SARAJEVO, August 4 (FENA) - Member of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina Šefik Džaferović attended on Saturday the marking of the 10th anniversary of the reconstruction of the mosque in Fazlagića Kula near Gacko, which was set on fire in 2008.

By laying flowers and saying prayers at the central memorial, Džaferović and representatives of delegations from other institutions paid tribute to the martyrs of Gacko.

"It was important in a very short time to rebuild this facility that is very significant to us. Today we are here to remember and pay our respects for the 182 killed Bosniaks of Gacko during the defense of BiH against the aggression, all until people of Gacko were able to defend their doorsteps, here in the Gacko municipality. We are here to remember and pay our respects to over 400 martyrs from Gacko, who gave their lives on the front lines throughout BiH," said Džaferović in his address.

He emphasized that the aggression against BiH came from the outside, primarily on the wave of the Greater Serbia project and then the Greater Croatia project, and the main goal was to destroy the multiethnic substance of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the centuries-old BiH tradition of common existence and life of different ethnic groups.

Džaferović emphasized that returnees across Bosnia and Herzegovina, including those in Gacko, are the best fighters for the reintegration of the state of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

He emphasized that BiH is a multiethnic country, that no entity is an ethnically exclusive space of one people, but that both entities belong to all peoples and all citizens, and that "both the call to prayer from the mosques and the church bells should be heard in all corners of the country."

"Our returnees have a difficult life. Some have trouble returning to their homes, some have problems making their return sustainable. Mostly everyone has problems with the exercise of their rights, the rights that are enshrined in the documents, in the constitution under which we function in BiH today. I call on all the authorities in BiH, and here in the entity of RS, here in the territory of the Municipality of Gacko: to respect the rights of returnees," said Džaferović.

He emphasized the rights of returnees to employment in the public sector and the right to identity, especially the right to the Bosnian language in the RS entity, that must be respected.
