SREBRENICA, August 25 (FENA) – "Around 25,000 people have visited the Potočari Memorial Center this year. They visited all the contents of the Memorial in organized groups and accompanied by a curator," said Curator of the Srebrenica-Potočari Memorial Center, Azir Osmanović, for FENA.
The Center is visited every day by a large number of organized groups and individuals from different parts of the world.
"At the end of the year, the Memorial Center records visits that include all groups of visitors. That number is always over 100,000 visitors annually. Many visitors come to the Memorial Center without notice or in so-called individual visits, especially in July and August when most people are on holiday and then you can see the parking at the Memorial Center is full of vehicles," said Osmanović.
He points out that, over the past few years, most foreign visitors are from Turkey, Italy and Australia.
People from different countries around the world are mostly interested in the role of the UNPROFOR Dutch battalion and the UN, and many of them are interested in the situation in Srebrenica today, whether all war criminals have been prosecuted, is genocide still being denied today and when will the process of searching and identifying missing persons end.
So far 6,643 victims of genocide have been buried at the Srebrenica-Potočari Memorial Center.
Visitors who come in organized groups can visit the cemetery, have a historical lesson on the events of the war and genocide, visit the Memorial Room, the Sense Multimedia Room / Documentation Center and the newly opened permanent exhibition "Srebrenica Genocide - Failure of the International Community", as well as watch a short film about genocide.
