SARAJEVO, August 28 (FENA) - Given that the implementation of the Sarajevo - Belgrade motorway/expressway construction project is the responsibility of several institutions, full cooperation, regular communication and exchange of all the relevant information is needed in order to coordinate in parallel the activities on the construction of all the facilities (the bridge, border crossing, access roads), FENA learns from the Ministry of Communications and Transport of BiH.

The construction of the interstate bridge is the responsibility of the ministry, and therefore, as it was noted, it is the bearer of the activities on the conclusion of the bilateral agreement.

Determining the category and location of the border crossing (two or one joint border crossing in the territory of one of the states) is under the responsibility of the Ministry of Security of Bosnia and Herzegovina, which is the holder of the procedure for the conclusion of bilateral agreements in this field.

The construction of the border crossing is the responsibility of the Indirect Taxation Authority of Bosnia and Herzegovina, while the construction of the motorway/expressway is the responsibility of the entities and competent institutions of the Brčko District.

At its session held on 10 June 2019, the Council of Ministers considered and adopted the report of the Ministry of Communications and Transport for 2018 entitled "Information on activities undertaken on the project" Construction of the Sarajevo - Belgrade motorway/expressway, with the proposal of conclusions".

The Ministry states that the activities are underway to implement the procedure for concluding a bilateral Agreement between the Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Government of the Republic of Serbia on cooperation in the implementation of the Sarajevo - Belgrade motorway/expressway project.

On 9 July 2019, the Ministry of Communications and Transport of Bosnia and Herzegovina received the Decision of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina to open negotiations for the conclusion of the agreement on this matter.

In this regard, the Ministry has sent a letter to all the competent institutions in Bosnia and Herzegovina at different levels of government to send one representative each to the negotiating delegation.

A meeting with the competent ministry of the Republic of Serbia is expected at the end of September to continue negotiations and cooperation on the project.

It was announced earlier that the works on the construction of the aforementioned motorway/expressway in Serbia would be officially marked on August 29, with the expected arrival of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, but his visit was subsequently postponed.
