SARAJEVO, September 23 (FENA) - Activists of the association "Resource Aarhus Center in BiH", the Environmental Center and the Center for Ecology and Energy from Tuzla, today will present an initiative to the Parliament of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina to adopt the FBiH Law on Environmental Protection.

In September this year, a petition was organized, and with its signature and support, about 1,000 citizens (Sarajevo, Zenica, Kakanj, Tuzla, Jablanica, Mostar) expressed their belief that better environmental protection is urgently needed.

“The petition was successful and today we are invited to a meeting with the representatives of the Parliament of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, to whom we will present our Proposal for the Law on Environmental Protection of the FBiH,” said the Aarhus Center Executive Director Emina Veljović.

Together with the proposed amendments, such as providing inclusion for a larger number of citizens with regards to environmental protection, greater penalties for polluters, Veljović says that the Environmental Protection Law proposal represents a step forward in environmental protection in BiH.

She announced that she would inform the public about the results of the meeting with the representatives of the legislative authorities of the Federation of BiH, and accordingly, will undertake further activities to accelerate the adoption of the Law, which is a very important legal basis for BiH on its path to the European Union.
