City of Sarajevo host of 30th General Assembly of Peace Messenger Cities

SARAJEVO, September 24 (FENA) - City of Sarajevo will host the 30th General Assembly of the International Association of "Peace Messengers Cities" (IAPMC), during the period of September 25-29.

This is one of the most important meetings between mayors and other representatives of local authorities of European and world cities, peace messengers, members of the UN Association.

"We are proud that the General Assembly of this prominent association will be held in Sarajevo, for the second time, namely the jubilee, 10 years after it was held for the first time. It is an honor and recognition for us. Sarajevo is recognized as a city that, through its openness and commitment to advocacy of peace and nonviolence, can strongly influence development of much-needed dialogue between cities, states and their citizens," said Sarajevo Mayor Abdulah Skaka.

Skaka said that this international event is also an ideal opportunity for establishing co-operation, to exchange opinions and experiences, as well as create new friendships.

"Representatives of the City of Coventry from the UK are arriving in Sarajevo for the first time. It was the first city to be twinned with Sarajevo in 1957. We will also be able to thank the Mayor of the City of Morphou from Cyprus for donation to our City Hall. We will also meet with the Mayor of Auschwitz, a city that is interested in involving Sarajevo in the implementation of the project – Remembrance Alley,” said Skaka.

The focus of the Association Assembly will be on promoting culture of peace in the 21st century, as opposed to the culture of war that marked the 20th century; UN Sustainable Development Goals: Making cities inclusive, safe, adaptable and sustainable.

Assembly will also address the current topic of migration and the role of cities and their effect on the consequences of this phenomenon, both on cities and on migrants.

According to the official protocol, this meeting will end with adopting the Sarajevo Declaration of 2019, as a contribution to the mission in building common future of solidarity and peace for European and world civil and democratic society.
