SARAJEVO, September 26 (FENA) - The Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Bosnia and Herzegovina hosted a reception last evening in Sarajevo that was attended by a large number of guests and officials to celebrate the country’s 74th Independence Day.
That state declared independence on August 17, 1945, after it had been under the control of the Dutch colonial forces for three and a half centuries and then Japan for three and a half years.
The reception began with playing the anthems of Bosnia and Herzegovina and Indonesia, after which Indonesia's Ambassador to BiH, Amelia Achmad Yani addressed the guests, saying that Indonesia has proven that democracy, modernity and Muslims, Catholics, Christians, Buddhists, Confucians and Hindus can coexist in harmony.
“This year, Indonesia is celebrating the 25th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations with Bosnia and Herzegovina and over the years, we have had excellent cooperation in international and multilateral relations,” the ambassador said.
Following the address by Ambassador Yani, the guests were served ‘Nasi Tumpeng’, Indonesian ceremonial cone-shaped yellow rice with assorted dishes prepared for special occasions, such as family celebrations, weddings or birthdays, and of course, Indonesia’s Independence Day celebrations.
The ceremony was completed with a masked dance, followed by the traditional dance of the Indonesian Balinese people, while the guests also had the opportunity to try the traditional dishes of this Asian country.
The reception was attended by numerous members of the diplomatic corps in BiH and representatives of political and cultural life in BiH.
