BRČKO, September 26 (FENA) - Before the regular session of the Brčko District Assembly began on Wednesday, September 25, Brčko District Supervisor Michael Scanlan addressed the deputies with an analysis of the situation in the District and his expectations from the Government and the Assembly.
He said that the Brčko District missed a lot of opportunities and that from the once energetic economic center it became a community with a long list of things that it lacked, which is why people, especially young people, are leaving the District. He cited lack of preparedness for reforms as the reason, the District Assembly stated.
"What encouraged me was your voiced commitment to quickly reverse this negative trend through legislative measures that would be adopted this fall to strengthen good governance, infrastructure development and private sector growth," said Supervisor Scanlan.
He cited the adoption of the new budget law, the law on associations and foundations and the improvement of the overall legislative framework for new investment as top priorities.
Supervisor Michael Scanlan said he expects everyone in the Assembly to work on the smooth implementation of the modernization project of the Port of Brčko, as well as to create the preconditions for the feasibility study for the bridge reconstruction at the Brčko-Gunja border crossing.
Among the priorities he also singled out the work on creating the conditions for quality electricity supply through renewable energy sources and energy efficiency.
