SARAJEVO, October 7 (FENA) - BiH Minister of Security Dragan Mektić met today with Ambassador Johann Sattler, Head of the Delegation of the European Union to Bosnia and Herzegovina and the European Union Special Representative in BiH to discuss the current migration issues and Bosnia and Herzegovina's cooperation with European security agencies.
Minister Mektić informed Ambassador Sattler on the activities of opening a new reception center near Sarajevo in order to deploy migrants located in BiH evenly and reduce pressure in the Una-Sana Canton (USC).
They also discussed the improvement of accommodation capacities in the USC area, which include the closure of the center Vučjak, which the EU has assessed as unacceptable and inadequate for migrants. Addressing these issues was rated as very urgent given the arrival of colder days.
This topic will also be discussed in Brussels at a meeting with the Director-General of the EU Directorate-General for Neighborhood and Enlargement Negotiations, Christian Danielsson.
Sattler informed Minister Mektić that the EU would soon select an expert on migration issues who would cooperate with BiH institutions in managing migration.
During the meeting the interlocutors also discussed problems in establishing BiH's cooperation with EUROPOL, primarily due to delays in establishing a contact point in BiH. It was concluded that BiH is therefore lacking important cooperation with this European police agency, the BiH Ministry of Security stated.
