Komšić: Bosnia had its statehood at a time when many others did not

FENA Press release

VIENNA, October 13 (FENA) - BiH Presidency Chairman Željko Komšić said at a ceremony held in Vienna on the occasion of the 830th anniversary of the Kulin Ban Charter that while there are Bosnians and Herzegovinians who love their country and want to improve it, no one will take its future.

“If 830 years ago we knew how to trade and conclude contracts with other states, we will know how to do that in the future as well,” said Komšić, noting that this event shows that here in Vienna, we are talking about our Bosnia and Herzegovina, our past, or at least parts of that past show that Bosnia and Herzegovina was not a creation of the late twentieth century, but Bosnia had its statehood and the judiciary at a time when many others did not.

Taking into account the history of the country, which we need to know in order to make right decisions in today's world, he emphasized that it is of the utmost importance for Bosnia and Herzegovina to secure its place NATO at this time.

He believes that the future of BiH and its citizens will be exactly the way we fight for it.

“We will have the future we create, not someone else. Personally, I do not believe that effort and commitment can be flawed, that they are worthless, that they have no effect. Let us remember only the effort, commitment, hope, sacrifice, faith in Bosnia and Herzegovina and ourselves, those who gave their lives for this country, the one we have today. Not perfect, not ideal, not the way we imagined it, but we have it and it is ours, no matter what,” said Komšić.

Talking about hard work, dedication, sacrifice, self-esteem and hope, Komšić mentioned the recent success of BiH athlete Amel Tuka, who won second place at the World Athletics Championships in Doha.

“Imagine how many people in Bosnia and Herzegovina who, like Amel, after the first or second obstacle, do not think to quit. They are our future and we must fight for them. We must not lose hope that anyone who wants to live honestly and work hard, can achieve great success, the success that our Amel Tuka has achieved. These are the people we live with. I believe in these people and I think that there are more of them than we think,” said Komšić.

Despite the fact that a large number of young people left BiH, Komšić is convinced that precisely those who live and work in Austria today can strengthen the connection with their homeland and this cooperation, primarily, in the field of economy.

“In this way, we will not lose our identity or culture, we will only strengthen it,” Komšić concluded at the event of the marking of the 830th anniversary of the Kulin Ban Charter held in Vienna, the BiH Presidency stated.
