SARAJEVO, October 15 (FENA) - "We want to be free and we will be free" is the name of an exhibition of the National Archives of Latvia, which, in cooperation with the Archive of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, opened today at the National Museum of BiH.

The idea for the exhibition came as a result of many years of successful cooperation between the Federation of BiH Archives and the National Archives of Latvia, and was dedicated to the formation of the Latvian State 100 years ago.

The exhibition was organized by the Latvian Archives in collaboration with the archives of all the Baltic Republics, as well as the Polish and National Archives of Finland.

Director of the Federation Archives Ademir Jerković, Head of International Program Latvia 100 at the Ministry of Culture Leonard Kestera and expert from the National Archives of Latvia Meldra Usenko spoke at the opening of the exhibition.

Jerković recalled in his address the long-standing cooperation of the institution with the National Archives of Latvia.

The exhibition presented at the National Museum, he said, is a testimony to the centennial history of Latvia, a country created by the dissolution of three empires - German, Austro-Hungarian and Russian after World War I. The exhibition also covers periods when Latvia lost its independence and was taken over by the USSR until it regained independence.

The head of the Latvia 100 International Program at the Ministry of Culture, Leonard Kestera, recalled that the country celebrated its centennial on October 18 last year.

“Latvia is created by our thoughts and actions, through our contributions to the prosperity of Latvia. "I am Latvia" was and remains the main message at the centenary celebrations. She recalls that our people are Latvia's greatest resource. Those who have sacrificed their lives for freedom, those who have dedicated themselves to creating and maintaining an independent state,” Keseter said.

She also pointed out that 2019, as a continuation of the 100th anniversary of the Latvian state, was called the "Year of Courage", which commemorates the creation of the state of Latvia - the first government, the battle for freedom and the care of the Latvian army, local and national institutions.
