Minasi: The 2011 energy use agreement between Italy and Serbia put out of force

FENA Press release

SARAJEVO, October 15 (FENA) - Chairman of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Željko Komšić today received in a working visit Italian Ambassador Nicola Minasi.

Ambassador Minasi, referring to the latest news articles from certain Bosnian-Herzegovinian media, informed the Chairman of the BiH Presidency about the actions of the Republic of Italy in connection with the Agreement between the Republic of Italy and the Republic of Serbia on cooperation in the field of energy from 2011, which included investments in hydro-potentials located on the territory of Bosnia and Herzegovina and alongside the border of BiH with the Republic of Serbia.

Minasi informed Komšić that Italy, at the time of concluding this international agreement, intended to cooperate in the field of energy with several countries in the region, after laying a cable in the Adriatic Sea for the transfer of electricity, which created the preconditions for such forms of cooperation.

Minasi pointed out that the initiative of the Republic of Italy was aimed at creating a framework for cross-border cooperation for the shared use of electricity in the region between Italy, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Serbia.

When it was confirmed that a modality for participation in this project could not be found within BiH, contacts came to an end and no agreement entered into force. Thus, the funds made available for this joint project were diverted to other purposes.

The BiH Presidency Chairman Komšić thanked the Italian ambassador for the information, especially from the aspect of respecting the Constitution of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the exclusive competences of the relevant state institutions to sign international agreements, the BiH Presidency said.
