SARAJEVO, October 24 (FENA) - A Memorandum of Understanding with nine new municipalities in BiH was signed today in Sarajevo as part of the Integrated Local Development (ILDP) project implemented by the Government of Switzerland and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP).

Since the project has been implemented since 2008, the third phase of ILDP (2017-2021), aims at affirmation and consolidation of the acquired knowledge and development management systems, from the local, cantonal and entity levels.

In this cycle, the municipalities supported by the signing of the Memorandum today are: Pelagićevo, Foča-Ustikolina, Novo Goražde, Petrovo, Pale-Prača, Ostra Luka, Čajniče, Glamoč and Bosansko Grahovo.

Director of Cooperation and Deputy Head of Mission of the Swiss Embassy in BiH, Barbara Dateyler Scheuer, recalled that the project has yielded good results so far, since 80 municipalities and cities in BiH apply the principle of integrated planned development.

“Nine municipalities are entering the project today. These are small and underdeveloped municipalities, but they have a perspective, and we do not leave out small and underdeveloped municipalities and we do not contribute to inequality among local communities,” Dateyler Scheuer said in a statement to FENA.

The mayors of these municipalities, she stressed, are ready to act as agents of change and improve the lives of their citizens.

“We must look to the future. We must have new and creative solutions so that people do not leave their country, their communities. Municipalities really benefit greatly from the project, in terms of building, developing infrastructure, and creating new jobs,” said Dateyler Scheuer.

The UNDP Deputy Resident Representative Sukhrob Khoshmukhamedov agrees that underdeveloped local communities should be assisted to have equality in development, and competitiveness on the market.

He stressed that the project of the Government of Switzerland and UNDP has improved the development planning process and that the funds invested for this phase of the project amount to more than USD 6 million.
