Pendeš attends meeting of NATO North Atlantic Council in Brussels

SARAJEVO, October 25 (FENA) – BiH Minister of Defense Marina Pendeš led a delegation of the BiH Ministry of Defense and the BiH Armed Forces at the NATO ministerial meeting held today at NATO Headquarters in Brussels.

The meeting was attended by defense ministers of NATO member countries and partner countries whose members are participating in a peace support mission in Afghanistan.

The ministers discussed the political and military situation in Afghanistan, with particular emphasis on the negotiations for reconciliation of conflicting parties and the recent presidential elections in this country, with all participating countries agreeing that negotiations should be continued, political agreement reached, affirming its commitment to supporting both the Resolute Support mission and Afghanistan as a whole.

During her speech, Minister Pendeš emphasized BiH's commitment to joint efforts in ensuring international peace and security, continued support for peacebuilding and long-term stability in Afghanistan, and that the BiH Armed Forces members continue to participate in the "Resolute Support" mission, and reiterated BiH's commitment of joining the Euro-Atlantic community.

On the sidelines of the meeting, Minister Pendeš had meetings with several delegations, and in brief conversation she held talks with the Ministers of Defense of Croatia, Austria, Slovakia and Montenegro, and the Minister of Defense of Germany, as well as with the Director General of NATO International Military Staff, Lieutenant General Hans-Werner Wiermann.

In addition to Minister Pendeš, the MoD and AF BiH delegations included Assistant Minister of Defense for International Cooperation Zoran Šajinović, Head of the Military Part of the BiH Mission to NATO, Brigadier Jasmin Čajić, Deputy Head of the Military Part of the BiH Mission to NATO, Brigadier Velibor Purković and Chief of Staff of the Military Part of the BiH Mission to NATO Major Zvonimir Duvnjak, PR Office of the BiH Ministry of Defense stated.
