SARAJEVO, October 25 (FENA) - Raisu-l-ulama of the Islamic Community of BiH Husein Kavazović received today a delegation from the Dr Denis Mukwege Foundation and the SEMA Global Network of Victims and Survivors to End Wartime Sexual Violence. The meeting was also attended by representatives of "Our Voice” Association helping the Victims and Survivors of Sexual Violence in War from Tuzla with the co-founder of the Association, Dr. Amra Delić.
SEMA Global Network of Victims and Survivors to End Wartime Sexual Violence operates within the Dr. Denis Mukwege Foundation, with headquarters in The Hague and Geneva. The founder and director of this Foundation is Dr. Dennis Mukwege from Congo who is a world-renowned gynecologist, human rights activist and Nobel Prize laureate for his contribution to supporting survivors of sexual violence in conflict. Also, Dr. Mukwege is one of the persistent advocates of establishing a unique fund for reparations for victims of sexual violence in conflicts globally.
Raisu-l-ulama said that Bosnian Muslims during the aggression against Bosnia and Herzegovina were confronted with a systematic rape campaign that was used for the first time in history as a strategy of warfare and persecution of civilians, and that Muslims in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Islamic Community has a full understanding for victims of war crimes, and that they appreciate the commitment of Dr. Mukwege and his foundation.
“Through its engagement the Islamic Community has been supporting the victims of this war crime, whose greatest casualties were precisely those belonging to the Islamic Community. We have worked to combat stigmatization, and today we want to share those experiences with others in the world and continue to support victims and their associations,” said Raisu-l-ulama, MINA reports.
