Salkić: War crime in Kotor Varoš is an example of a crime with impunity

FENA Press release

BANJA LUKA, November 3 (FENA) - Vice-President of the entity of RS, Ramiz Salkić today attended the marking of the 27th anniversary of war crimes committed in the municipality of Večići near Kotor Varoš.

The commemoration for the victims began with the welcoming of about 80 participants of the peace march " A Silent Walk for a Great Pain" which started two days ago from Karaula near Travnik.

Participants hiked the paths that Bosniaks from Kotor Varoš used trying to get to free territory in November 1992.

According to the association, 175 Bosniaks were killed and 90 of them reached the free territory.

In 1992, several hundred Bosniak civilians were killed in the Kotor Varoš municipality, and families are still searching for the bones of 275 of them.

As part of the program organized in Večići, Vice President Salkić addressed those present, who said that Bosniaks must persevere in their search for truth and justice.

"All those who are not on the path of strengthening the culture of remembrance of crimes committed in our homeland and against our citizens are simply working against truth and justice and working for those who advocate that crimes and criminals never get punished. Anyone who for the sake of today's comfort and privileges, remains silent about the crimes, is an accomplice on the path of oblivion. Forgetting is the path to a new crime against our people and our homeland.

The crime in Večići in Kotor Varoš municipality is an example of a war crime with impunity. Unfortunately, this crime is not the only one, since many crimes, such as those in Hanifići, Vrbanjci and Grabovica, have not been prosecuted and many other war criminals are still at large. We meet those war criminals every day and they affect our lives every day in this region.

Despite everything, Bosniaks have returned to Kotor Varoš and want to live in peace with their neighbors and to build a better life for their families and future generations. This is our commitment throughout the entity of RS in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
