Migrants from Vučjak should be relocated to reception centers outside USC

BIHAĆ, November 8 (FENA) - BiH Security Minister Dragan Mektić confirmed that two reception centers outside the Una-Sana Canton (USC) are currently establishing, which should accommodate migrants and refugees currently residing in Vučjak near Bihać.

“We are close to such a solution and it is our priority to close the center in Vučjak. In the next two to three days, we will try to create conditions for the transfer of a certain number of migrants from this location to reception centers in the vicinity of Sarajevo. I do not know where the information on the transfer of migrants from Vučjak to Bira and Miral came from. They are completely untrue, as the temporary reception centers Bira in Bihać and Miral in Velika Kladuša are already filled with their accommodation capacities. The eventual expansion was not even considered,” said Minister Mektić.

He added that at the moment there are no conditions for closure of Bira and Miral, which local and cantonal authorities in the Una-Sana Canton insist on.

“Task Force for Coordination and Control of Migration Crisis in the USC area could not or was not allowed to prohibit the owners of these premises from extending their contracts with the International Organization for Migration (IOM). For now, these centers remain open because we currently have no alternative solutions. We do have money, however, there is a lack of consent from local authorities and an adequate state-owned location,” the BiH Minister of Security said.

Bihać Mayor Šuhret Fazlić said that neither the local government would allow any expansion of existing capacities, nor the opening of any new reception centers in the city at this time.

“There are no new containers in Borići, no new migrants in Bira. The position of the City of Bihać is that there should not be any, because we need to include and evenly distribute the burden of the migration process on the whole country. All the accommodation capacities here have already been exceeded. At an extraordinary session of the City Council, we offered the location of Lipa for construction of a temporary reception center, so that no one can tell us anything. We have done everything within our capabilities and even more,” said Fazlić.

He reiterated that the temporary reception center in Vučjak will remain until the BiH Ministry of Security and international organizations find an adequate solution for relocation outside the USC area, since these people cannot reside on the streets of Bihać.
