FENA Press release

GENEVA/SARAJEVO, November 8 (FENA) - At the invitation of the World Economic Forum, the BiH Council of Ministers Chairman Denis Zvizdić participated in the Strategic Economic Dialogue on the Western Balkans in Geneva today. The high-level meeting was chaired by World Economic Forum founder Klaus Schwab.

The meeting was an opportunity to talk about strengthening regional cooperation and fostering reconciliation and dialogue as key factors for stability and economic progress. They also discussed building a positive agenda for the future of the region, and beyond, as well as creating opportunities and new initiatives that will facilitate economic and social progress through public-private cooperation in the Western Balkans.

Talking about the European perspective of the Western Balkans, Zvizdić said that EU membership still has no alternative for Bosnia and Herzegovina and the entire region and that the membership perspective is an impetus for all social and economic reforms.

He stressed that full integration of the Western Balkans is in the interest of Europe and that a wave of expansion based on regional cooperation and good neighborly relations needs to be continued and that moving closer to the European Union will open up new positive perspectives on stability, economic development and the rule of law.

Zvizdić said that economic growth, sustainable development, and prosperity of the citizens of the Western Balkans are of the utmost importance for enhancing economic cooperation between the countries of the region and that such cooperation includes business connectivity, digital connectivity, cultural exchange, youth ties, etc.

- We are on the threshold of the fourth industrial revolution that will fundamentally change the way we live, work and relate to one another. The region must seize the opportunities of digitalization and become a more desirable place for business and for new investments - Zvizdić said.

The participants of the meeting agreed that the responsibility and the obligation to act are mutual and they hoped that together with the assistance of the World Economic Forum, they will act to secure a certain future for the economic and European perspective of the region.

The Strategic Dialogue in the Western Balkans is a process that began in Davos in January 2018 with the aim of helping partners in that part of the Balkans raise economic growth and living standards, the BiH Council of Ministers said.
