Magazinović to European Socialists: Macron is not telling truth, we need help

FENA Press release

SARAJEVO, November 10 (FENA) - Member of the Presidency of the Party of European Socialists (PES) and President of the Main Board of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) of BiH, Saša Magazinović, addressed the leadership of PES, MPs in the S&D Group, and PES party members.

Magazinović addressed European Socialist regarding the statement by French President Emmanuel Macron that Bosnia and Herzegovina is a "ticking time bomb" that is placed right next to Croatia, adding that BiH faces the problem of returnee extremists.

He believes that this statement is entirely based on false information and is essentially inaccurate and harmful to Bosnia and Herzegovina.

“I emphasize that this, after blocking the European path of North Macedonia and Albania, is the second wrong move of the French president in a short time,” said Magazinović.

He pointed out that, contrary to Emmanuel Macron's statements, Bosnia and Herzegovina has been recognized as a country with great progress in fight against terrorism, of which no citizen has participated in a terrorist act in Europe and in the world, which has been noted in numerous reports.

Such unfounded statement is surprising and condemned due to the fact that French President can easily get accurate information on the number of departures to foreign battlefields from all countries in the world, about returnees, as well as potential terrorist threats and to convince himself of the inaccuracy of his statements.

As the Party of European Socialists has always been a progressive part of the European political scene, we in SDP expect the PES leadership to pay great attention, as it has done so far, and follows the developments in the Balkans, analyzes the consequences of such moves and statements, and reacts in accordance with its always clear positions on EU enlargement.

“That is precisely why I would like to draw attention once again to incorrect attitude of the EU, which sets bureaucratic conditions before BiH, conditions for the continuation of the EU path, that are not easily manageable in these political circumstances, and with negative messages that North Macedonia and Albania received, it sends a message to the entire region that we are Europeans of a different category and that we are not welcome in the EU. This will cause significant problems in the Balkans, but also make everyone in the region think about alternatives, which we all know is not a good way to go,” said Magazinović.

He also stresses that the candidate status of the countries of the region and their internal transformation and strengthening through negotiations is the only way to strengthen the Balkan countries, SDP stated.
