Genocide Victims Association requires investigation on HJPC decision

FENA Press release

SARAJEVO, November 11 (FENA) - Association of Victims and Witnesses of Genocide issued a statement urging representatives of the international community to immediately investigate all the conclusions of the High Judicial and Prosecutorial Council of BiH (HJPC), to whom and when the consent to access war crime cases is given.

A reaction of the Genocide Victims Association came after "Milan Tegeltija said in a compromising statement yesterday that the decision of the HJPC BiH granting approval in this case is no exception, but a standard in the work of the HJPC BiH so far”.

Tegeltija tried again to misinform the public and victims about the HJPC's conclusions, justifying and minimizing the HJPC's decision, which was issued on his own initiative and which allowed Serbian associations to access the war crime cases in BiH, according to a press release from the Association.

They recall the conclusions of the HJPC from 2017, which were also made on the proposal of the HJPC President Milan Tegeltija, and that "only at the intervention of the international community, Milan Tegeltija changed the conclusions of the war background check on dozens of Bošnjak judges and prosecutors, as well as requests that BiH courts be asked for information on the number of convicted persons, by nationality."

The Association calls on domestic institutions, representatives of the OHR, the EU, the OSCE in BiH and other representatives of the international community in BiH to urgently initiate reform of the judicial system, most notably HJPC reform.
